Brandon Marshall does not want Jets to lose Ryan Fitzpatrick

Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall turned 30 prior to the start of the 2015 NFL season, but that did not stop him from having a career year with the New York Jets. Does he really want to start fresh next fall with another quarterback?

Of course not.

Marshall has made it clear that he wants the Jets to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick. During an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” Friday, he said the thought of Fitzpatrick playing for another team scares him.

“The way we communicate, the way we practice together, the way we bring other guys together, I’ve never seen that anywhere else,” Marshall said, via Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. “And I’ve been a lot of places. And I’ve had a lot of quarterbacks. So that’s the toughest thing for me when I think about him potentially putting on another jersey.”

Marshall caught 109 passes for 1,502 yards and a career-high 14 touchdowns last season. His yardage total was just six yards shy of his best year with the Chicago Bears in 2012. Marshall and Fitzpatrick looked like they have played their entire careers together, so you can understand why Marshall wants to keep that going.

“What we had and what we have is hard to create,” he said. “It took us… six months to do that and most of the time it takes guys a couple years. So we feel like we’re really close. We have a great defense, we have a consistent offense and we have great coaches, so all we need to do now is continued to get more reps with the same guys.”

Last week, Marshall had a much more entertaining way of expressing how much he likes playing with Fitzpatrick. You can watch that video here.

Fitzpatrick is reportedly seeking $18 million per year, so it’s clear the Jets are nowhere close to meeting his demands with their latest offer. That said, it’s also evident that other teams aren’t willing to pay Fitzpatrick what he wants, either. Marshall doesn’t need to panic just yet.
