Brandon Marshall would be ‘disappointed’ if Jets trade him

As the Tuesday NFL trade deadline approaches, many have wondered if the New York Jets will look to sell off some assets now that their 2016 season appears to be a bust. One player who would likely garner plenty of interest is veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall, but he is hoping the team ignores any potential offers.

Following New York’s 31-28 win over the Cleveland Browns Sunday, Marshall said he does not want to be traded.

“I would be disappointed if I was traded,” the veteran insisted, via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “I love it here. I want to finish what we started here with Coach (Todd) Bowles. But I don’t think that will happen.”

Marshall had arguably his best season as a pro with the Jets last year, hauling in 109 passes for 1,502 yards and a career-high 14 touchdowns. It’s no surprise he has been a big supporter of Ryan Fitzpatrick given that success, and it is also not surprising that a 32-year-old player does not want to pack up and move again.

I love ownership. I love management. I love the coaches. I love my teammates. To be honest with you, I like (the media) too, which is tough. I really do,” Marshall added. “I want to finish what we started here. We’re not out of it. We’re going to continue to fight, rally the troops and continue to keep this team on the right track.”

The Jets are 3-5 and in last place in the AFC East. A win is a win in the NFL, but they nearly allowed the 0-8 Browns to pick up their first victory of the season on Sunday. If Fitzpatrick can’t rediscover his 2015 form down the stretch, no quirky T-shirt that Marshall wears will be enough to save the quarterback’s job or Gang Green’s season.
