Brendon Ayanbadejo plans to use Super Bowl as platform for his gay rights, anti-bullying messages

brendon ayanbadejoBaltimore Ravens linebacker/special teams ace Brendon Ayanbadejo already has his plans prepared for Super Bowl week. No, he’s not going to be visiting the finest restaurants and nightclubs in New Orleans. Ayanbadejo is planning to use the media blitz at the Super Bowl as an opportunity to express his views on gay rights and anti-bullying.

Ayanbadejo is biracial and grew up in a liberal environment where discrimination was frowned upon. His stepfather was a resident director for an LGBT dorm at the University of California at Santa Cruz. Ayanbadejo and his family lived in the dorm, which helped him develop passionate feelings for gay rights.

Earlier this season, Ayanbadejo was at the center of a controversy that developed when a Maryland politician wrote a letter to the Ravens telling them to silence the linebacker from speaking out. Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe jumped in and wrote a scathing letter toward the politician admonishing him for discouraging a citizen from sharing their views.

Ayanbadejo remains passionate about gay rights and anti-bullying. In fact, he began working on plans to get out his message as soon as the Ravens clinched a berth to the Super Bowl.

According to The New York Times, Ayanbadejo emailed two marriage equality advocates hours after returning home from the team’s win over the New England Patriots last weekend. He’s even swapped emails with the founder and executive director of Athlete Ally, a group dedicated to ridding sports at all levels of homophobia. He’s trying to organize plans to speak out for gay rights in the week leading up to the big game.

Ayanbadejo even has his dream scenario in mind: the Ravens win the Super Bowl, and he celebrates as a guest on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, where the two talk about the importance of equality for gays and lesbians.

You might wonder if the Ravens are worried about Ayanbadejo’s plans to speak out during Super Bowl week becoming a distraction. We don’t know their thoughts on the matter, but we do know the team managed to beat the Patriots despite him causing a stir the week before the game, so they are used to him becoming the focus of attention.

  • SoTxJoe

Here’s an idea: why don’t you use your homosexual relationship to promote football and shut up on the other way around stuff. Pompous ass.

  • gatorgirl59

Does it really matter??? NO!!! DA!!!

    Just play football…geez!

  • muarice

This foolball player wants Vile people  exalted so the can wicked stand and cheer.

  • DVSlb

Wow, judgmental much? Maybe you should spend more time reading your Bible than expressing your narrow-mindedness in a public forum. Apparently you missed the part where Jesus said, “Judge not, lest you be judged.”

  • DVSlb

     Why? Are you?

  • TCLucas

Why is it when any athlete decides to stand up for something like this. Suddenly the whack jobs come out of the woodwork to bash them? Here’s a question if same sex marriage becomes legal nationally, what effect would it have on hetero marriages? ABSOLUTELY  NOTHING. My wife will and familty will love me the same as they did before. The sun will still come up in the morning. Nothing will change.
@DVSlb – Let’s not forget love thy neighbor. “Christians” only use those when what people are doing is in agreement with their “morals” or ideals. If not then it’s hell and damnation. I love the double standards.

  • mark voorhees

can you believe this? compare this with Tim Tebow, they would just as soon kill TT  but this pervert gets the red carpet , they will probably name obamas bedroom in the white house after him  , obama will probably invite him to dinner and more….

  • mark voorhees

Go look at the dead sea for that is where sodom, gomorrah ,admah , zeboim and zoar used to be , that is what liberals like you have to look forward to, for the Angels that destroyed that entire valley are on this earth and in this nation, and they know right where you live and all the sins you commit on a daily basis so try arguing with them and try calling  them a bunch of self righteous hypocrites and sexist bigots, for they will pay you no heed for you have rebelled against your Creator and that was your choice God is no respector of persons , oh and your idea that lesbianism and homosexuality is love shows how far gone you are, all lesbians and homosexuals are pedophiles and pederasts and rapists, and you call that love !

  • mark voorhees

Those Angels are going to destroy all sexual perverts and adulterers and nothing can stop them , they come from another world where it is only light and righteousness, and Jesus is worshipped and adored for who He is ,Jesus sent these Angels here because He has issued the mandate of vengeance , and the time for mercy has passed for many people in this country, they will not be granted repentance , their names were not found written in the Lambs Book of Life

  • RebelFlag

    Who cares? play football!

  • TCLucas

Like I said everything is “Love thy neighbor” until something happened you don’t like. Do I believe in God? Absolutely. I also believe in Allah, Buddha, Vish ‘nu or what ever other moniker you want to use. The Bible was written by MEN and was translated by men for the beliefs of their time. The Council of Nicaea wasn’t something dreamed up for The Davinci Code. It happened and they decided what books were “allowed” in the Bible and if something contradicted those men’s beliefs it was thrown out. So it was corrupted by men. So, take it as you will.

As a Christian, I can love someone and disagree with them or their lifestyle.  The two things are not mutually exclusive…

  • TCLucas

I’m not saying you can’t disagree with them but to resort to name calling is not very “Christian like”. That’s what I’m saying. This I why I don’t subscribe to any organized religion. I don’t think anyone has the right to tell me what my relationship to God needs to be nor how much money I need to hand over to “assure my place in Heaven”.
Do you see my point though? Disagreeing is one thing but the name calling and damning them is another. The ONLY  way someone doesn’t get into heaven is to renounce God. My wife and I have Gay friends and most of them believe in God. We don’t live their lifestyle and they know we are straight. They don’t bug us about it just as we don’t bug them about it. We treat them as human beings. Look at history. They said having an interracial relationship would destroy humanity and children of those relationship would be “mongoloid”. Kinda the same situation here. People say the human race will be lost and we will go extinct. Yet these relationship have been around long before Christianity and the last I looked the population isn’t shrinking.

admah  zeboim  … he played WR for Minnesota in the 80′s, right?

  • SherylSimpson

yep…come out in favor of tolerance and ant-bullying and the so-called Christians go looney.  i guess Jesus was PRO-bullying…?   you people aren’t Christians…you’re just ignorant.  you don’t even know what Christianity is if your first reaction is to speak out in hate.  ignorant, ignorant, ignorant…and full of hate.  what are you so scared of to be so against people being who they are?  Bullies for Christ!!  so pathetically IGNORANT.

  • SherylSimpson

are you a Christian, too?  or just a hater?

  • redskinsfan79

I have to agrree with some of the post on here, Tebow like him or not is a great guy , but seems to get nailed evrywhere he goes or for what he says. This guy does get a red carpet treatment , what gives ? Tebow is just being himself and so is this guy , I see some hypocracy in this.
That being said , The posters want to agree with all religions and give them the same credibility, but with Christianity you van’t , why? Jesus said “I am THE WAY , THE TRUTH ,and THE LIFE and no one comes to the afther but by ME. ” So, one has to decide either He is right and the other religions are wrong, because they have a way other than that , but Jesus himself said there is no ther way but by him. So I had to consider either He is a Lunatic or He is The Lord. He can’t be combined with anyother offer, lol. But after further study HE is who He says He is!!!! But as a Christian I have agree as He is does and disagree as he does, but definitely not hate and condemn, it’s pretty simple actually , I love but not condone.

Maybe this football player should just leave the NFL and go be his calling as a left wing advocate! Stay away from football and Go 49ers! These creeps destroy sports and entertainment. Keep politics out of sports and entertainment, we get blasted enough with it and we do not care what sports or entertainment figure thinks anyways. Ray Lewis and his team need to sack this Ravens player asap. Well, I can honestly say that now the Ravens have lost some fans. Now dare a 49ers player do the same dumb a$$ move and then the ratings for the Superbowl will plummet. * Also, I have personally seen a gay parade, and some walk around completely nude while others are dressed vulgar and act vulgar! It’s sick and the cities authorities look the other way! Talk about a gross double standard! Puke, I may consider not watching this Pro-gay Superbowl.

  • Hopegoddess

BTW, for the left wing liberals, I’m proud to be intolerant of vulgarity and immorality!

  • Sheri Gonzales

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son so that whoever believes in him my not be lost but have eternal life. John 3:16 Jesus is the only way to heaven! God Bless

  • TCLucas

You have got to be the most ignorant person on this board

  • TCLucas

Ok I do have to say this. You do realize that Christianity is the youngest of main stream religions. And the ONLY reason Christianity is the largest of all religions now is because they had the largest Armies and they killed anyone who disagreed with them. Does that sound like a loving religion? Oh wait, it’s only if you agree with them and abide only by their rules that they are loving.

  • Sheri Gonzales

I will have to say that in today’s times it is hard to find a true representation of a Christian who leads a life that is different that the way everyone else does. True Christianity is about a real relationship with a real God that you can feel inside your heart and then comes out to others from there. I try to be that person to the best of my ability but sometime I just fail miserably. We all do… but that’s ok because thats when I pick myself back up and try again to do my best knowing that on my own.. I will fall again. I personally call on the Lord for help and he never fails me. He has a purpose for everyone’s life including you and myself. Have a good day!
