Brian Billick unloads on Johnny Manziel: He is not a pro QB on or off field

Johnny Manziel

Former Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick sees no reason why any NFL team should sign Johnny Manziel if and when the Cleveland Browns release the 24-year-old quarterback.

During an appearance on Jason Whitlock’s show on FOX Sports 1 Tuesday, Billick was asked for his thoughts on three young NFL quarterbacks — Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston and Manziel. He said he would “start with the good quarterbacks” before showering Mariota and Winston in praise. Billick then unloaded on Manziel.

“I hate to be so critical, but I refuse — on a week where we’re celebrating the great game — to talk about a guy who has no business being in this league on or off the field,” he said. “I’ve seen nothing in Johnny Manziel to say he is a pro quarterback on or off the field.”

How can you disagree? When Manziel has gotten chances to play, he has been mediocre at best. That is to be expected for a young quarterback, but there has been no indication that Manziel works as hard as he can off the field. Instead, he has found himself at the center of one embarrassing incident after the next (here is the latest) and has clearly lost the support of the Browns.

Billick is not the first analyst to rip Manziel. We all saw how Johnny Football fired back at this ESPN personality after Manziel had a couple decent outings, but we doubt he’ll have anything to say to Billick. The guy just can’t stay out of trouble.
