Report: Brock Osweiler to remain Broncos starter for rest of season

Brock-Osweiler

The Denver Broncos have reportedly already decided to commit to Brock Osweiler as their starting quarterback for the remainder of the season.

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, sources within the Broncos organization say that Peyton Manning will not be getting his job back when he is fully healthy unless Osweiler “struggles significantly.”

This isn’t exactly a surprise, especially after Osweiler led the Broncos to a dramatic overtime win over the New England Patriots on Sunday night. The 25-year-old has made few mistakes and shown an ability to throw the ball downfield, which is something Manning might not be able to do at this point in his career.

Now, it will be interesting to see how Manning and the Broncos handle the situation going forward. The quietest way the team could “bench” Manning would be to claim he simply isn’t healthy. However, Manning might not want to go along with that if he feels he deserves to get his job back.

There have already been indications that Broncos players want Osweiler to remain the team’s starter. Osweiler said Manning helped a great deal with halftime adjustments during Denver’s win over the Patriots, but will Peyton be so kind when his foot is healed and he is holding a clipboard?

At least one analyst and Hall of Fame quarterback believes Manning will be the one leading the Broncos to the Super Bowl. But unless Osweiler stumbles, it doesn’t sound like Peyton will have that opportunity.
