Report: Browns still seriously considering Trubisky at No. 1

Mitch Trubisky

The Cleveland Browns are still seriously considering drafting Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 1 overall pick in next week’s NFL Draft, according to a report.

Browns executive Sashi Brown showed signs during the week that the team was not divided over whom to take with the top pick. Many believed the implication was that they are set on pass rusher Myles Garrett. But there has been talk that there is a split between what the coaches want and what the front office wants. On Friday, a report said ownership was pushing for the team to draft a QB.

Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reports that the Browns are seriously considering Trubisky at No. 1 because they are hungry for a franchise quarterback and believe the North Carolina product could be that for them. They wouldn’t want to wait for him at No. 12 in case another team selects him first.

If the Browns were to pass on Trubisky at No. 1 and someone else took him, they would have other options at No. 12, such as Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes. But the Browns may not be willing to do so if they believe in Trubisky that much.
