Browns reportedly looking to trade up from No. 12 in NFL Draft

Mitch Trubisky

The Cleveland Browns have two picks in the first 12 selections of the upcoming NFL Draft, but that apparently is not good enough for a team looking to land two franchise-altering talents in one day.

Michael Silver of NFL.com reported on Monday that three teams with picks in the top eight of the draft have been contacted by the Browns, who want their second pick to be higher than No. 12.

There have been reports that Browns front office executives and coaches are torn between selecting Myles Garrett and Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 1 overall pick, so this is probably their way of trying to get both. However, it’s interesting to note that Silver’s colleague Mike Garafolo mentioned the Carolina Panthers as a possible trade partner for Cleveland.

The New York Jets, who have the sixth overall pick, are the only other team in the top eight that is likely to select a quarterback. If the Browns expect Trubisky to be the first QB taken, they probably need to get ahead of the Jets to pick him.

This is all speculation, of course. If you want to know how quickly things can change leading up to the draft (especially with the Browns), just read this story about Johnny Manziel from a former Cleveland executive.

A report from last week said at least four teams are interested in trading out of the top 10 of the draft, so the Browns should have more than one option if they want to move up from No. 12.
