Report: Browns would trade third rounder for Colin Kaepernick

The Cleveland Browns would reportedly give up a third round pick for Colin Kaepernick, but a trade would be dependent on whether his new team could rework his contract.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the San Francisco 49ers want a second rounder for Kaepernick, but they may settle for Cleveland’s third round pick, which is the second pick in that round, only two picks lower than Denver’s. The Broncos, originally believed to be the frontrunners for Kaepernick, are reportedly hesitant to part with a high pick for the quarterback.

The Browns, however, would want to restructure Kaepernick’s deal. He has an $11.9 million base salary guarantee that would kick in as long as he’s on a roster on April 1, and a $19 million a year average. The Browns would reportedly want to get this closer to $7-$8 million a year, and it is unclear whether Kaepernick is willing to do that or not, though Cabot notes that the Browns have been talking with his agents.

Kaepernick reportedly favors a move to the Browns, and the feeling is supposedly mutual, so they may be in a better position than Denver to make a deal.
