Bruce Arians strongly denies report that he is considering retirement

Not so fast on those Bruce Arians retirement rumors.

The Arizona Cardinals coach strongly refuted an earlier report that stated he was considering retirement at season’s end. That report cited coaches who know him well, and Arians thinks that’s nonsense.

“First of all, I don’t have that many friends,” Arians told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s Bickley and Marotta, adding that suggestions that his family could pull him into retirement “couldn’t be anything further from the truth.”

“[General manager Steve Keim] and I are talking a lot about, you know, what pieces do we need to start looking at, getting guys signed up for future contracts, and looking forward to finishing this year and damn sure coaching next year,” Arians said.

He also downplayed fears about his health, stating that it’s normal for coaches to deal with the occasional issue.

“Everybody gets sick, really sick after the season because, your immune system is shot,” Arians said. “Everybody, most coaches, will be sick as a dog. I’ve been sick every year for the last 30 years within two weeks after the season.

“I did an adrenal test last year. I was an acute adrenal failure after the season. That’s just coaching.”

Arians has dealt with health problems during the season, which likely contributed to the thoughts of him stepping aside. He sounds like he has no plans to do so, though.
