Cam Newton does not think criticism of him is racist

Cam Newton

Many people have said that some of the criticism of Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is racially motivated. Newton, however, doesn’t think so.

Newton told Zach Baron of GQ in an interview posted Monday that he thinks people are just entitled to their own opinions.

“It’s not racism,” Newton said. “Everybody’s entitled to their own opinion.”

Newton declined to go into detail when asked what he felt it actually was.

“I’ll let you be the judge. I don’t look at it like that,” Newton said. “I look at it like some people have certain beliefs, and I have my own belief, and we can agree to disagree on certain things.

“I don’t want this to be about race, because it’s not. It’s not. Like, we’re beyond that. As a nation.”

Interestingly, Newton has commented on his race and how it relates to the criticism he receives. One former ESPN personality definitely believes race is a factor, even if Newton does not.
