Cardinals trying hard to land Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson

The Arizona Cardinals are making some serious efforts to land Adrian Peterson.

Yahoo! Sports’ Rand Getlin reports that the Cardinals cut Darnell Dockett because they wanted to have salary cap space available to make a run at Peterson.

Peterson is under contract with the Minnesota Vikings and set to earn $12.75 million for the upcoming season. The Vikings have been adamant in public comments that they want their former MVP back with the team, but Peterson’s father suggested those statements may be intended to boost his son’s trade value.

Peterson reportedly has a list of five teams to whom he would like to be traded, and the Cardinals were one of the five teams. Yahoo’s Charles Robinson believes that the Cardinals are Peterson’s top choice, followed by the Colts, Cowboys, Buccaneers and Chargers.

This would also explain why the team was unwilling to meet the $500,000 difference it needed to retain Dockett, who said he was willing to take less to remain with the team.
