Carson mayor Albert Robles rips Chargers owner

Inglewood NFL stadium

The city of Carson, Calif. was a loser when it came to the NFL’s relocation project, and their mayor is lashing out in response.

Albert Robles, who is the mayor of Carson, lambasted the NFL’s relocation process. He is also upset about the way he was treated by the Raiders and Chargers, which had a joint proposal to play in Carson.

“This is about how the Chargers, Raiders … treated their partner. And maybe this is the way things are done in the NFL,” Robles told the Los Angeles Times.

Robles said he bit his tongue for several months as the process unfolded. But now that the Inglewood project got the green light from the league — and the Chargers were invited to join them — he is not holding back.

“And as they say, karma is a [expletive],” Robles said. “So, hey, [Chargers owner Dean Spanos] treated us poorly. I hope Kroenke treats him poorly, is my point.”

Spanos does not have much leverage in his talks with Kroenke, so Robles may get his wish. The Chargers have a year to decide whether they will remain in San Diego or move to Los Angeles. If they decide to move, then they need to determine when and where they will play. They also may only be considered tenants in the new stadium, meaning their agreement with Kroenke might not be the most friendly.

Does that make you happy, Robles?
