Report: Carson Wentz likely to begin training camp on PUP list
The Philadelphia Eagles are set to report to training camp on Wednesday, and Carson Wentz may not be on the field despite the progress he has made in his rehab from a torn ACL.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Eagles are likely to place Wentz on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list to start camp. That would be no indication of his availability for Week 1, as he could be removed from the list at any time. The other option would be having Wentz practice on a limited basis.
The #Eagles report and have their physicals today, including rehabbing QB Carson Wentz. The most likely, cautious scenario is that Wentz lands on the PUP list, sources say, though he could come off at any time. It would not be an indication that he’ll start the season on PUP.

Putting QB Carson Wentz on PUP is one strong option for the #Eagles. The other is to have him practice on a limited basis so he can remain out on the field with his teammates. Either way, rehab is going well… it just doesn’t make sense to have him practice fully yet.

Wentz suffered a torn ACL on Dec. 10 last year, and he participated in team drills and some 7-on-7 work during minicamp. The biggest hurdle in his recovery has to do with him being cleared for contact, but all indications have been that the clearance will come well before the regular season.
The Eagles were able to win the Super Bowl last year despite not having Wentz in their most important games, but he is still their starter over Nick Foles. However, the presence of Foles gives Philly the luxury of not having to rush their former first-round pick back.
