Carson Wentz to start Week 1 for Eagles

Carson Wentz

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson announced on Monday that Carson Wentz will be the team’s starting quarterback in Week 1.

Wentz has been nursing a rib injury since taking a big hit in a preseason game, but Pederson said the rookie is fully healthy and was able to do everything with the Eagles’ first-team offense at practice Monday.

With the Eagles having traded Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings, the Week 1 starting job had come down to Wentz and Chase Daniel, who played under Pederson with the Kansas City Chiefs last season. The Eagles obviously feel that Wentz has shown enough in training camp and is ready to start as a rookie.

When you consider some of the reports we heard about Wentz in recent weeks, it’s remarkable that he has been named the starter. Starting as a rookie is never an easy task. We’ll find out very shortly if the former North Dakota State star can handle it.
