Carson Wentz expects ‘good working relationship’ with Sam Bradford

Carson Wentz

Sam Bradford is probably in no rush to become a mentor for Carson Wentz, but the rookie is not concerned about the tension that could exist when he meets his new teammate face-to-face.

Though Wentz has not spoken to Bradford and is undoubtedly aware that Bradford would have preferred if the Eagles didn’t draft the North Dakota State star, he says he doesn’t anticipate any bad blood in training camp.

“Personally I don’t think there will be a lot of tension,” Wentz told reporters on Friday, via Conor Orr of NFL.com. “People might make it out to be but the coaches and everybody will be on the same page and I think it will be a really good working relationship for sure.”

The reality is Bradford should feel threatened by Wentz, not the other way around. The Eagles didn’t trade up to draft a quarterback only to have him ride the bench for several years. That’s precisely why Bradford demanded a trade.

“It is what it is, honestly like I’ve been saying all along, it’s out of my control,” Wentz added. “People want to make it a big situation but like I said earlier we’ll have a really good working relationship and I think it will benefit the team because we are going to compete and really everybody in that quarterback room and in the entire organization is going to compete and push each other, so I think it will only benefit the team.”

Bradford’s agent said it all when he ripped the Eagles (read his comments here), but that was nothing personal against Wentz. For all we know, Bradford could be the model of maturity this season and take Wentz under his wing. Or perhaps Wentz will just steal the job in training camp. Some awkwardness is inevitable, but that doesn’t mean both Wentz and Bradford can’t handle it like professionals.
