Cary Williams: Chip Kelly’s conditioning didn’t work and he was outcoached

Cary-Williams-EaglesCary Williams is extremely happy to be with the Seattle Seahawks after two seasons under Chip Kelly on the Philadelphia Eagles, and he’s not afraid to let people know it.

The 30-year-old cornerback joined 710 ESPN Seattle’s “Brock and Salk” and was again critical of Kelly by questioning the coach’s conditioning program and saying the Eagles got outcoached.

Here were his comments when talking about the Eagles’ 24-14 loss to the Seahawks in December:

“We was talking about the fact that our conditioning and things like was going to kick in because we worked harder than everybody in the National Football League with the Chip Kelly thing,” Williams said via MyNorthwest.com. “We got out there, we got our teeth kicked in. So all that conditioning didn’t necessarily work. Preparation wasn’t necessarily the greatest neither that week. When you’re going up against teams that prepare well, practice well, coach well, it’s difficult in games like that. I think towards the end of the year we were exhausted and we got outcoached the majority of the games.”

Part of his comments should not come as a surprise. Back in September, Williams said Kelly was working his players too hard during the week, and that was after the Eagles started 3-0. This is the first time we’ve seen him flat-out say the team was outcoached the majority of games, which is a direct criticism of the team’s head coach.

Still, despite all the criticism, Williams oddly said that he thinks Kelly is a “great coach, a tremendous coach,” noting that he just disagrees with the coach’s approach.

As we have seen many times in the past, Williams is a guy who runs his mouth and is not afraid to share his opinion, so maybe Kelly shouldn’t take this too seriously. I think what this really tells us is that Cary Williams is not a smoothie fan. At least he has found a new home in Seattle that seems to suit him much better than Philly did.
