CFL team clears cap space, potentially for Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel

There is speculation that a CFL team has cleared some salary cap space to make room for Johnny Manziel.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have the negotiating rights to Manziel. The team made a trade with the Montreal Alouettes for the No. 1 pick in the CFL draft that also involved a quarterback on their negotiation list. The trade helped the Tiger-Cats clear cap space, which TSN speculates could be for the former Heisman Trophy winner.

There looked like there could be movement on the Manziel CFL front earlier this year, but no deal between the sides was reached. Manziel ended up signing to play in the Spring League instead.

Manziel has been hoping for another shot at an NFL career, but teams seem reluctant to give him an opportunity. Manziel’s best chance of rebuilding his stock could be through playing in the CFL.
