Chandler Jones apologizes for ‘stupid mistake’

Chandler-Jones

Chandler Jones spoke to the media for just over a minute on Thursday, and the Patriots defensive end apologized for the incident he was involved in on Sunday morning.

“I want to start off by saying I made a pretty stupid mistake this weekend,” Jones said, per Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald. “Right now, my main focus is becoming the best player I can be and helping the team. We’re focusing on Kansas City.”

Jones, who sounded nervous, would not go into detail about what happened. He was clearly instructed to issue an apology and then turn the focus toward the Chiefs.

“I feel the need to apologize to everyone,” Jones added. “But right now, like I said, I made a mistake. Each and every day, all I can focus on is just Kansas City. I know it sounds like I’m repeating myself, but that’s what it is right now, becoming the best No. 95 I can be right now and help this team out.”

It’s unclear if Jones will be disciplined by the team for his alleged synthetic marijuana-fueled freakout, but the 25-year-old said he is hoping to have “the biggest game of my life” on Saturday.

More police documents from the bizarre incident were made public on Thursday, and you can read some of the disturbing details here.

Jones led the Patriots with 12.5 sacks this season and is having his best year as a pro.
