Chargers coach says Mike Williams reminds him of Terrell Owens
The stock of Los Angeles Chargers receiver Mike Williams is steadily rising this offseason, and Anthony Lynn is certainly helping gas him up as well.
The Chargers head coach said that he was walking behind one of his players this week thinking that it was a defensive lineman, only to realize that it was actually Williams. Lynn also added that the second-year wideout’s size reminded him of Terrell Owens, per veteran football writer Jim Trotter.
Chargers coach Anthony Lynn told me he was walking behind one of his players this week and thought the player was a defensive lineman. Then he realized it was WR Mike Williams. Said Williams’ size reminds him of Terrell Owens and should make him a matchup problem.

Williams did his part to prove Lynn right on Saturday with an incredible jump-ball catch for a touchdown in a preseason game against Seattle.

The 23-year-old Williams went No. 7 overall to the Chargers in the 2017 draft. He played sparingly as a rookie, in part to due to injury, and caught just 11 passes for 95 yards and zero touchdowns on the year.
Williams’ opportunity should be much greater this season with Antonio Gates’ exit and Hunter Henry’s injury opening up a lot of red-zone targets. That is part of why he made our list of the biggest breakout candidates for 2018.
