Chargers reportedly are not trading Philip Rivers
The San Diego Chargers and Philip Rivers appear to be in a difficult situation, but the team does not have plans to trade their franchise quarterback.
A report a few weeks ago said Rivers did not want to move to Los Angeles if/when the Chargers move. He also declined a contract extension offer from the team, leading to speculation and reports saying that they might deal him. But now a report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says the team will not trade him.
While Philip Rivers’ agent did meet with the #Chargers recently, he’s not signing an extension now. And they aren’t trading him.

Rivers is under contract through the upcoming season, and the Chargers could hold his rights for 2016 by franchise tagging him. A trade with the Titans for the No. 2 overall pick, which they would in all likelihood use on Marcus Mariota, seems to make sense if they do deal him, but now signs are pointing to the Chargers keeping Rivers. It makes sense; why would they want to trade a Pro Bowl quarterback?
