Chip Kelly: I’m still confident in Sam Bradford

Chip-Kelly

The Philadelphia Eagles are a disaster on the level of a Roland Emmerich movie right now, but head coach Chip Kelly is sticking to his guns.

Even after incumbent quarterback Sam Bradford threw two interceptions and posted a dismal 5.3 QBR in a 20-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Kelly gave the 27-year-old signal caller his vote of confidence.

Bradford has turned the ball over five times in just two games and his total QBR of 24.0 ranks dead-last amongst starting quarterbacks in the league. Former USC quarterback Mark Sanchez is waiting in the wings for the Eagles, but it doesn’t look like Kelly will make that lineup change for next week against the Jets.

The struggles of the Eagles offense go well beyond just Bradford as DeMarco Murray has rushed for a pathetic 11 yards on 21 attempts in his first two games in a Philly uniform. Kelly’s famed system of pushing the tempo offensively has also largely fallen flat on its face out of the gates.

For now, Bradford looks like the starter but you’ve gotta think that no matter what Kelly says to the media, that the former Heisman winner’s leash has gotten a lot shorter. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time that Kelly has changed his mind about one of the Eagles quarterbacks.
