Report: Chip Kelly gave DeMarco Murray ‘no assurances’ about his role

DeMarco Murray

DeMarco Murray has been open about the fact that he is unhappy with the way he is being used in Philadelphia, but that does not mean anything is going to change over the final three weeks of the season and potentially into the playoffs.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he met with Murray last week to go over some of the running back’s concerns. Over the weekend, ESPN’s Adam Caplan reported that Kelly did not reassure Murray about anything during that meeting.

At this point, it’s baffling that Kelly thought Murray would be a good fit for his offense and gave him $18 million guaranteed. Murray has averaged just 3.5 yards per carry and has looked completely lost most games. Ryan Mathews, who returned from a concussion last week, got 15 touches against Buffalo compared to Murray’s 13.

Murray reportedly complained to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie about his role in the offense because he feels Kelly is unapproachable. There have already been rumors that Murray wants to be traded to a certain NFL team. While it’s unclear if he’ll get his wish, it would not be a surprise if Murray’s first season in Philly turns out to be his last.
