Could Chip Kelly bring Johnny Manziel to the Eagles?

The Philadelphia Eagles could end up in search of a quarterback once again this offseason, and one name that will be linked to the team if Chip Kelly sticks around is Johnny Manziel.

Why? For starters, Kelly’s offense at Oregon enjoyed most of its success with a quarterback who could throw and run, such as Marcus Mariota. Manziel has not shown that he can be that player at the NFL level, but he is only 22 and certainly did both of those things effectively at Texas A&M. To make matters more interesting, Kelly recruited Manziel at Oregon.

In an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” Thursday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter listed the Rams, 49ers and Cowboys as the most likely destinations for Manziel if he leaves Cleveland. When Patrick brought up the Eagles, Schefter said he believes that is a possibility.

“I think he’d be in the conversation. Kelly has to find somebody to run that offense,” Schefter said. “Sam Bradford’s contract is up. Mark Sanchez has not proven that he can be a reliable week in and week out starter. I think the Eagles will look over all those options.”

While there have been plenty of reports indicating that Kelly has lost his locker room and is destined to lose his job, Chip is said to believe he is sticking around. Adding Manziel to the fray would be the perfect storm for the media in Philly.

As for the other destinations, Schefter seemed the most convincing when it came to the Cowboys.

“Somebody will roll the dice and you know that Jerry Jones loves to make a splash, particularly when the cost is low like it will be with Johnny Manziel,” he said.

Remember that story about Jones needing to be physically restrained from drafting Manziel? We doubt his opinion has changed just because Manziel had a troubling incident with his girlfriend and spent the bye week partying.
