Chip Kelly reportedly made ridiculous offer to try to draft Marcus Mariota

Marcus Mariota Titans

It’s been about a year since Chip Kelly’s Philadelphia Eagles tried to move up in the draft for his college quarterback Marcus Mariota, and it sounds like the Tennessee Titans were given one heck of an offer.

Fox Sports’s Peter Schrager appeared on The Herd with Colin Cowherd and divulged what Kelly’s offer was for the number two pick.

“Last year the Eagles offered the Tennessee Titans a 2015 first-round pick, a 2015 second-round pick, a 2016 first-round pick,” Schrager said, via John Breech of Eye on Football. “They said ‘take any of our quarterbacks’ — that’s Bradford, that’s Sanchez, that’s whoever — ‘and take anyone on our defense; we want that No. 2 pick.'”

While there’s no telling how the Eagles would have done with Mariota – and without whoever Tennessee would have asked for – those parameters could have netted them the 20th and 47th picks in 2015, the team’s top pick in 2016 (which turned out to be 13th), Sam Bradford or Mark Sanchez, and the pick of Philadelphia’s defensive players.

This isn’t terribly different than the terms that the Eagles reportedly offered Tampa Bay for the top pick at the time. One sort of wonders why the Titans didn’t go for it.
