Clay Matthews’ thumb injury to keep him out at least a month

Clay Matthews PackersClay Matthews is likely to miss a month because of his thumb injury, and surgery is considered likely, according to a report.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news on Monday and says the Green Bay Packers All-Pro linebacker is undergoing testing. If Matthews needs surgery, which Schefter says is likely, he would likely be out at least a month.

FOX NFL reporter Jay Glazer later shared more information about Matthews’ injury. According to Glazer, Matthews has a Bennett fracture. Glazer says Matthews’ thumb needed to be stabilized w pins because it’s dislocated. The pins reportedly will be out in four weeks, and Matthews would need more time to heal after that.

The Packers improved to 2-2 after a 22-9 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Matthews had a sack before leaving with the thumb injury. He has made the Pro Bowl every year he has been in the league. The Packers defense will be in major trouble without him. He is a big-time gamechanger.
