Colin Kaepernick fully focused on football, refuses to give up NFL career

Colin Kaepernick

The chances of an NFL team signing Colin Kaepernick seem like they are decreasing by the day, but the free agent quarterback is not letting that deter him from keeping himself prepared in the event that the call comes.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports had a lengthy conversation with Kaepernick, and he came away convinced that the 29-year-old is willing to do whatever it takes to pursaude a team to sign him.

“His sole focus right now is on being a quarterback,” La Canfora said. “This young man is getting up at 4 a.m. every day and getting in an Uber. They found a spot in New Jersey where he can work out. He’s doing on-field work there for several hours, throwing 100-plus passes a day. He’s just looking for an opportunity. He understands that there’s controversy and things that come with him.

“Colin told me explicitly, ‘I’ll go anywhere and work out for a team. It can be done in private. Just have an evaluator look at me and see if I’m a football player.'”

While the work Kaepernick does in the community is still very important to him, La Canfora said any talk about football not being important to the quarterback is nonsense.

One former NFL general manager recently summed up the way a lot of teams feel about Kaepernick. There’s no question he is a better player than some of the backup quarterbacks in the league and even a handful of starters, but most teams don’t want a reserve player becoming a major story. Signing Kaepernick would be a major story, whether he wants it to be or not.
