Colin Kaepernick gets $61 million guaranteed in six-year extension

Colin KaepernickColin Kaepernick is getting paid some big-time money by the San Francisco 49ers.

A day after it was reported that the two sides resumed contract extension talks, we learned that an agreement was reached on a six-year extension. The extension will run through 2020 and it reportedly calls for Kaepernick to be paid $61 million guaranteed and can be worth up to $126 million.

The guaranteed money is a huge amount and more than what anyone other quarterback in history has been paid.

Kaepernick is absolutely worth it.

The guy is only 26 and led the Niners to the Super Bowl in his first year as a starter, and he took them to the NFC Championship Game in his second season. He can throw, he can scramble, and he is a good all-around player who is only getting better.

With this deal, the Niners are ensuring that they will have one of the league’s top QBs during the prime of his career. He is a franchise quarterback and this is the kind of money it takes to lock up a good, young one.

If you want to win in the NFL, you need a good quarterback, and this is how much they cost. I don’t see how anyone could complain about this contract.
