Colin Kaepernick is not worried about job security

Not too long ago, Colin Kaepernick was playing in a Super Bowl and a guy who would keep defensive coordinators up at night thanks to his rocket arm and foot speed. Now, he’s a shell of his former self and many around the Bay Area are wondering if he will ever return to form.

Despite his struggles last year (and so far this season), Kaepernick isn’t too worried about looking over his shoulder. If he did, he would see Blaine Gabbert. Job security is clearly something Kaepernick does not worry about.

“I don’t play for job security,” Kaepernick said, according to The Sacramento Bee. “Whether football’s here or not, I will be fine. I go out, I play to win. I’m not worried about job security when I step in this building.”

Kaepernick may not worry about it, but the groans from Niners fans aren’t going away anytime soon. San Francisco mustered just three points against Green Bay last weekend. The week before, Kaepernick was intercepted four times by the Cardinals, two of which were returned for touchdowns.

For Sunday’s game versus the Giants, Kaepernick will be under center. His status as the quarterback for the long term isn’t as certain. The seven-year contract Kaepernick signed last year is quite team friendly and allows the Niners to part ways with him prior to April 1 next year without sinking an unreasonable amount of money into him.

We are, of course, a ways from that decision having to be made. However, a few more bad performances by Kaepernick (and losses by the Niners) and we may see Gabbert throwing to Torrey Smith and handing off to Carlos Hyde.
