Colin Kaepernick reportedly will attend 49ers’ offseason program

Colin Kaepernick may want the San Francisco 49ers to trade him, but a lack of a deal will not stop him from carrying on as a member of the team.

The San Jose Mercury News’ Cam Inman reports that Kaepernick will attend the 49ers’ offseason program if he is still on the team’s roster when it begins on April 4.

It was only a few weeks ago that Kaepernick’s representatives asked the 49ers for permission to seek a trade. Since then Kaepernick was linked to the Texans, Broncos, Browns and Jets. Houston is out of the market as they signed Brock Osweiler to a big-money deal. The Jets and Broncos have both been talking with Ryan Fitzpatrick, which seems to match Kaepernick with the Browns, a team he is said to have interest in.

Kaepernick’s $11.1 million salary will become guaranteed for 2016 if he is on the 49ers’ roster on April 1. That deadline puts pressure on the Niners to make a decision on the QB before long.

As of now, Kaepernick will be competing with Blaine Gabbert for San Francisco’s starting job. Dylan Thompson and Thad Lewis are other QBs who will be in camp for the 49ers.

Kaepernick, 28, is recovering from thumb, knee and shoulder surgeries. He is expected to undergo a physical at the 49ers’ facility on Friday, per Inman.
