Colleen Crowley has not yet spoken to NFL, is key in Johnny Manziel case

Johnny Manziel

Colleen Crowley has not yet spoken with the NFL, which has put Johnny Manziel’s attempts to sign with a new NFL team on hold for the moment.

Manziel was dropped by his agent in Feburary and officially released by the Cleveland Browns this month. He has hired new agent Drew Rosenhaus in hopes of catching on with a team, but Rosenhaus apparently is seeing the difficulties of the task.

There is said to be interest in Manziel, but teams are reluctant to move forward until finding out what happens with the quarterback’s domestic violence case.

Manziel was accused of beating up ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley in late January and even rupturing her eardrum. The quarterback was not charged by Dallas police for the alleged crimes. However, the case has now gone to a grand jury for review.

Not only does Manziel face potential discipline and punishment from the law for this matter, but the NFL can choose to discipline him even if he escapes charges. In the past they have still suspended players under the personal conduct policy even if players were not charged with legal crimes. Speaking with Crowley and hearing her side of what happened could be a big factor in the NFL deciding a possible punishment for Manziel. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says that may not happen for months:

If Manziel’s case is months away from being resolved both legally and with the NFL, that means he may have to wait a while before finding out whether a team will give him another shot. In the meantime, that probably means we’ll be seeing a lot more of this from him.
