Colt Lyerla mug shot

Colt Lyerla was captured by authorities on Friday, several hours after escaping a correctional facility. And perhaps it comes as no shock, he had overdosed upon fleeing.

Lyerla, a former standout tight end for Oregon, escaped the Washington County Community Correction Center on Thursday early in the evening. He had escaped through a window.

Lyerla was found on Friday after someone called around 11:15 am to report a man who had overdosed on drugs. That person turned out to be Lyerla.

The former tight end was found awake and responsive but get this — he tried to flee again while being escorted to an ambulance, according to The Oregonian.

Lyerla will be taken to the hospital for treatment and then to jail.

Lyerla has a lengthy criminal history. He’s been arrested for cocaine possession, heroin possession, and for carrying counterfeit money. He will be facing an escape charge now too.
