Report: Colts targeting Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall Bears

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne was ultimately unsuccessful in trying to bounce back from a torn ACL last season. Considering he is 36, that did not come as a surprise.

Now, retirement is a legitimate possibility for the 14-year veteran. And even if Wayne doesn’t retire, Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole reports that the Colts will be looking to replace him as their No. 2 receiver behind TY Hilton. Their top target could be Brandon Marshall.

“The guy who fits the mold for them the best in terms of playing style is likely Brandon Marshall,” Cole said. “He may not be long for Chicago and may be looking for a landing spot, so this might work out best.

“There may be some issues in terms of maturity and whether he’ll handle it, but (the Colts) believe that with Andrew Luck at quarterback they can bring in Marshall and feel safe about that.”

Marshall, who will turn 31 next month, is owed $7.5 million in base salary in 2015. He already made it clear that he understands he could be released, and new Bears general manager Ryan Pace stopped short of committing to Marshall at the NFL Scouting Combine last week.

Cole also mentioned Andre Johnson, Mike Wallace and Vincent Jackson as potential targets for the Colts, though he noted that Jackson is unlikely to be available.

If the Bears are looking to shake things up on offense and the Colts are desperate for another threat in their passing game, it could work out for both sides. Indy could gets its guy while Chicago would get at least some value in return.
