Cowboys could reportedly target Todd Haley as offensive coordinator

The Dallas Cowboys have no plans to fire Jason Garrett this offseason, but they could still be making some major changes to their coaching staff. If offensive coordinator is one area that they decide needs to be improved, Todd Haley could be an option.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that both Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli are on the hot seat, noting that the team will “thoroughly” evaluate both positions. If Linehan is fired, Rapoport believes Haley will be a candidate to replace him.

Haley’s contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers is reportedly set to expire after the season, and there have been recent reports of tension between him and Ben Roethlisberger. Haley and Roethlisberger have always had a somewhat rocky relationship, so you have to wonder if Pittsburgh would be better off going in another direction.

Firing Linehan would have seemed ridiculous a season ago, when Ezekiel Elliott was the best running back in football and the Cowboys won 13 games. The team may decide to give Linehan another shot since he had to improvise without Elliott for six games this year, but some comments Dez Bryant made recently won’t work in Linehan’s favor.

Haley has been the OC in Pittsburgh since 2012. Linehan is in his fourth season as an offensive coach with the Cowboys.
