Cowboys in no rush to make decision on Dez Bryant

The Dallas Cowboys have yet to commit to Dez Bryant being with the team next season, and fans are understandably starting to get anxious. Unfortunately, it does not sound like they will have an answer in the near future.

With the NFL Draft less than a month away, you would think the Cowboys would be better off coming up with a solution regarding Bryant in the coming weeks. However, vice president Stephen Jones said there are no unofficial deadlines in place.

“We haven’t put that timeline on it,” Jones said, via the team’s official website. “When we get ready on a decision with Dez, we’ll make it.”

The Cowboys have already signed two wide receivers this offseason, but head coach Jason Garrett recently insisted those signings have nothing to do with Bryant’s situation. Team owner Jerry Jones had said he and Bryant have “a lot to talk about,” though he has stopped short of saying there’s a chance Bryant won’t be back with the Cowboys in 2018.

Bryant is one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL with a cap hit of $16.5 million in 2018, and he simply has not been as important in Dallas’ offense since Tony Romo left. If he’s unwilling to take less money or restructure his deal, it would not be a surprise if the Cowboys release him.
