Cowboys officials reportedly feel Ezekiel Elliott’s play impacted by court case

Ezekiel Elliott

Ezkiel Elliott eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark on Sunday for the first time since Week 1, but he has still not looked like quite the same player who exploded onto the scene as a rookie. According to Troy Aikman, Dallas Cowboys officials feel Elliott’s off-field issues have created a distraction for him.

Aikman and his FOX broadcast partner Joe Buck were discussing Elliott’s pending court case during Sunday’s game between the Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, and Aikman said he has been told by people with his former team that there is a belief Elliott is having trouble focusing.

“You talk to team officials, and hey, they do believe that some of that has impacted his play,” Aikman said, via a video shared by The Big Lead. “And how could it not?”

Some of Elliott’s struggles prior to Sunday’s game had to do with opposing teams loading the box against the Cowboys and forcing Dak Prescott to beat them with his arm. Still, it would not be a surprise if Aikman is right.

Elliott has no way of knowing when a court will make a ruling about his six-game suspension stemming from a domestic violence investigation. He obviously wants to put the case behind him, but that isn’t going to happen anytime soon. Some people have wondered if Elliott has lost a step physically, but we all know how he feels about that line of thought.
