Cowboys reportedly expected to release Dez Bryant

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is scheduled to meet with team owner Jerry Jones on Friday, and it sounds like the star receiver’s career with the franchise is coming to a close.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Todd Archer report that the Cowboys are expected to release Bryant.

Bryant is due a base salary of $12.5 million in 2018 and is scheduled to count $16 million against the cap, and he is not nearly as important to the Cowboys’ offense as he was when Tony Romo was the quarterback. The belief all along has been that Bryant will have to take a pay cut to remain with Dallas, and there has been skepticism that he is open to doing that.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones, Jerry’s son, made some comments earlier this offseason that could indicate he has grown tired of Bryant’s antics. While Jerry Jones has yet to come out and say that there’s a chance Bryant won’t be with the Cowboys next season, a divorce seems to make sense for both sides.
