Report: ‘Growing sense’ Cowboys will take QB at No. 4

Carson Wentz

The Dallas Cowboys feel that they are set at the quarterback position for at least a few more seasons, but that might not stop them from drafting one of the two best signal-callers in the upcoming NFL Draft.

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, some executives within the Cowboys organization are pushing for the team to take a quarterback with the No. 4 overall pick. The belief is that the Cowboys had a “freakish” down season in 2015 because of the injuries to Tony Romo and Dez Bryant, and they ideally won’t have an opportunity to choose this high in the first round again for a number of years.

Cole adds that some people within the organization believe that defense is a higher priority and that the team would be better off drafting a player like Ezekiel Elliott out of Ohio State before taking a quarterback.

This is not the first we have heard about the Cowboys being interested in a quarterback at No. 4. They are said to be high on North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz and could have an opportunity to trade back a couple spots and still get him.

Jerry Jones recently hinted that he would be open to taking a quarterback high in the draft when he discussed his ideal succession plan for life after Romo. Given Romo’s age (35) and injury history, drafting a top-notch QB prospect wouldn’t be a horrible idea.
