Report: Police recommend criminal charges against LeSean McCoy, arrest warrant expected

LeSean McCoy Bills

An arrest warrant is expected to be issued against Bills running back LeSean McCoy, and the Philadelphia police have reportedly recommended criminal charges be filed against him stemming from an alleged assault of two off-duty police officers.

Acording to ABC-6 Philadelphia, warrants are imminent against McCoy and three others involved in the alleged assault. Investigators submitted their report to the District Attorney’s Office recommending McCoy face charges, including aggravated assault. The off-duty police officers involved will reportedly not face charges.

The alleged assault took place early Sunday morning in Philadelphia and began when a member of McCoy’s party tried to grab a bottle of champagne ordered by one of the officers. One officer was allegedly punched and thrown to the ground where they were kicked, punched, and stomped on repeatedly, including blows to the head.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk reported that the NFL has begun its own investigation of the incident, though McCoy has not and likely will not be placed on paid leave because the player is not currently with his team.

McCoy and his three friends were ejected from the club but not arrested at the time.
