Dak Prescott, Cowboys appear to have ‘Shanahan’ audible

Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys’ offense appears to be using an interesting audible call this season.

In the first quarter of the Dallas Cowboys’ 19-3 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott audibled his offense into a run for Ezekiel Elliott by yelling out what clearly sounded like “Shanahan” at the line of scrimmage. SB Nation shared video of the play.

It’s unclear exactly what the “Shanahan” audible means, and we’re probably not going to get the definitive answer from the Cowboys on that one. We do know that the Cowboys ran the ball after the play. We also know that the Shanahans (Mike and Kyle) tend to use a zone blocking scheme on runs, so perhaps the call has something to do with zone blocking on a run.

In any case, the “Shanahan” audible got attention from fans and became one of the more examined audibles this side of Peyton Manning.
