Dak Prescott: Cowboys are Tony Romo’s team

If the Dallas Cowboys offered Dak Prescott the chance to keep his starting job even after Tony Romo returned, the rookie wouldn’t turn it down. But for now, he is focused on doing and saying all the right things.

While speaking to reporters after practice Wednesday, Prescott reiterated that he is just keeping the seat warm for Romo.

“This is Tony’s team,” he said, per Todd Archer of ESPN.com. “I knew that going into the situation. I think everybody knew that. I’m just trying to do the best I can to give my team a chance to win week in and week out.”

Prescott has 155 pass attempts in his young NFL career, and he has yet to throw an interception. He has four touchdowns through the air and another three on the ground. His steady play has resulted in a 4-1 record for Dallas, leading many to wonder if the Cowboys should stick with him even after Romo is cleared to play.

As far as Prescott is concerned, the speculation about him potentially pulling a Tom Brady on Romo is not something to pay attention to.

“It’s definitely not a distraction to me,” Prescott said. “That’s not my call. It doesn’t have anything to do with me. My job is to come in here, like I say, give these guys a chance to win, get better each and every day at practice and that’s all I focus on.”

An MRI this week showed that Romo’s fractured vertebrae has healed, so he can now focus on getting into game shape. The goal is for him to return after the team’s Week 7 bye.

Whatever happens, Cowboys fans should be pleased that their team seems to have scored a tremendous value in the fourth round of the draft. Not many rookies would turn down opportunities like this just because they need their rest. You often hear about guys in the NFL who “just don’t get it.” Prescott is clearly the opposite of those guys.
