Report: Dak Prescott ‘increasingly likely’ to keep starting job over Tony Romo

dak-prescott

With Dak Prescott having won yet another game on Sunday as the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, speculation continues to grow that the job is his to keep for the remainder of the season.

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report was told by a Cowboys team source that it is “increasingly likely” that Prescott will remain the starter in Dallas even after Romo is cleared to return from his back injury. In fact, that same source indicated Prescott could really impress the coaching staff by playing well against the Minnesota Vikings and their dominant defense.

That game isn’t until Dec. 1, which is Week 13.

If the Cowboys are already wondering how Prescott will do against Minnesota in a month, it certainly sounds like we may not see Romo this season.

Prescott has thrown just two interceptions in his seven NFL starts. He has led the Cowboys to a 6-1 record, with the only loss coming by one point against the New York Giants in the first game of the season. If winning is all that matters in Dallas, there’s simply no way to justify taking Prescott out of the lineup at this time — regardless of how Romo feels.

While Prescott hasn’t exactly lit the stat sheet on fire, his 99.6 passer rating ranks seventh among all NFL starting quarterbacks. He has in many ways been the perfect compliment to a phenomenal running game that is led by fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott.

If the latest report we heard about Romo’s health is any indication, the Cowboys are going to milk the veteran’s injury as long as they possibly can.
