Dale Hansen unloads on Jason Garrett, Cowboys for Greg Hardy signing

Dale Hansen of WFAA-TV in Dallas is one of the most opinionated sports anchors in the country, and he often raises some very valid points. During Wednesday night’s newscast, Hansen unloaded on the Dallas Cowboys for signing defensive tackle Greg Hardy.

The rant is worth watching in its entirety. Hansen blasted everyone from Cowboys ownership to fans who have cheered the signing to head coach Jason Garrett.

“Hardy’s only available because Carolina didn’t want him anymore, and only two or three other NFL teams did,” Hansen said. “Funny how so many teams would pass on such a great talent only because he beat up his former girlfriend. But your Cowboys didn’t, and so many of you are so happy.

“The reality is if Hardy knocks on your front door to take your daughter out for a night on the town — the man you cheer now — you would shoot his ass through the glass.”

Hansen then took a more personal approach with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

“Cowboys vice president Charlotte Jones Anderson, the owner’s daughter, is on the NFL’s personal conduct policy committee,” he said. “It must be quite a committee and quite a policy. And apparently if Charlotte was ever beaten by a man, the esteemed owner would be OK with that man on his team if he could play.”

And, finally, Hansen singled out Garrett.

“Cowboys coach Jason Garrett has been exposed. He’s one of two things: He’s either a fraud and hypocrite when he talks about having the right type of guys — “character” guys, on his team — or he really has no say in this and he’s simply the puppet so many of you think he is.”

From a football standpoint, the Hardy signing looks great. Hardy is a premier pass-rusher who has 27 sacks in his last 32 games and is still very much in his prime. But given what he allegedly did to his ex-girlfriend, you can understand why Hansen and many others are outraged. There’s a reason every other team passed on Hardy when they could have had him for a one-year, incentive-laden deal.
