Report: Danny Trevathan to sign with Bears

The Denver Broncos just lost another major contributor to their Super Bowl-winning team.

Linebacker Danny Trevathan has agreed to sign with the Chicago Bears, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old Trevathan was a core member of the Broncos’ historic defense last season, recording 109 total combined tackles and two interceptions. He also recovered two fumbles in the Super Bowl 50 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Chicago aren’t particularly close to contention, having finished in the cellar of the NFC North in 2015. But Trevathan will be reunited with Bears head coach John Fox, who was his coach for three seasons in Denver.

One of the top inside linebackers in the NFL, Trevathan plugs a huge hole on defense for the Bears and subsequently creates one for the Broncos. Denver now finds themselves down three valuable pieces from last year’s team having also lost defensive end Malik Jackson to the Jaguars and quarterback Brock Osweiler to the Texans (not to mention the retirement of Peyton Manning).
