Danny Woodhead has torn ACL, out for year

For the second week in a row, the worst fears of the San Diego Chargers have been confirmed.

According to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Monday, Chargers running back Danny Woodhead has a torn ACL and is out for the remainder of the season.

Woodhead, 31, had to be carted off the field in the first quarter of Sunday’s 38-14 Week 2 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars after a tackle by linebacker Telvin Smith (video here).

The Chargers already lost wide receiver Keenan Allen to his own ACL tear in Week 1 and will now be without another major offensive weapon for the rest of the 2016 campaign.

Second-year running back Melvin Gordon, who has already racked up 159 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the first two games of the season, figures to become the Chargers’ backfield bellcow in Woodhead’s absence.
