Darrelle Revis misses practice with ankle injury
Darrelle Revis sat out Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury, but New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said he is not concerned about the veteran cornerback.
Revis was on the field in his helmet and pads during the media portion of practice, which is the first 30 minutes. He later left after tweaking his ankle, with Bowles telling Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News and others that there is “not much” concern about Revis’ status.
Any injury to a 31-year-old cornerback is a concern, especially one who has played like Revis. More often than he has looked like a seven-time Pro Bowler this season, Revis has looked like a player whose best days are behind him. He has been torched for multiple big plays (video here) already and simply does not appear quick enough to stick with top receivers anymore.
While the ankle injury may be minor, anything with the potential to slow Revis down even more could become an issue. If you remember, the Jets downplayed reports about Revis being hurt last season, and it was later revealed that he played most of the season through a pretty significant injury.
