Darrelle Revis reportedly still wants to play; Chargers have interest
Darrelle Revis could not find a team to sign him during the offseason, but the veteran cornerback has not given up on his NFL career just yet.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Revis has been training in Florida and told those close to him that he still expects to play in 2017. The Los Angeles Chargers were one of a “handful of teams” that expressed interest, according to Schefter. They recently placed cornerback Jason Verrett on injured reserve, but they reportedly reached out to Revis before that.
Revis, who was released by the New York Jets after last season, had $6 million guaranteed remaining on his deal. The language in his contract with the Jets stated that the team will receive a credit for any money Revis makes from another team in 2017, meaning they would have to pay him $5 million if he signs elsewhere for the veteran minimum, which is around $1 million.
Revis turned 32 in July. He was linked to at least one team during the offseason, but he has yet to make any visits.
