Daryl Washington reinstated by NFL after three-year suspension
After last playing in an NFL game in 2013, Daryl Washington has been reinstated by the league on a conditional basis.
In May 2014, Washington was suspended for the entire upcoming season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He was suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season for the same reason. That same year, he was also arrested for assaulting a former girlfriend and later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.
On Tuesday, the NFL released a statement saying the league will review his progress.
“Prior to the start of the regular season, the NFL will review Washington’s progress,” the NFL’s statement read, per ESPN. “Based on his compliance and engagement with his program and resources, he will be permitted to participate in all regular season activities beginning in Week 1. He will be evaluated later in the season for full reinstatement.”
The Cardinals also released a statement saying Washington’s status with the team will be addressed at the appropriate time.

In 2012, the Cardinals signed Washington to a six-year deal. He would go on to make the Pro Bowl that season and earn Second Team All-Pro honors. That year, the best of his four seasons, Washington recorded 134 tackles, nine sacks, one interception, and two forced fumbles.
