DeAngelo Williams willing to be towel or water boy for Steelers

DeAngelo Williams Steelers

DeAngelo Williams is so thankful to be a part of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he is willing to do anything to help them win. And when we say anything, we really mean anything.

Williams, who will be 32 in April, signed a two-year deal with the Steelers Friday, a few weeks after the was cut by the Panthers. He gave this gem of a quote about signing with his new team.

“I want to come in and help them be productive on offense,” Williams said via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ed Bouchette. “Whether that means me coming off the bench, giving the offensive line water, making sure Ben Roethlisberger’s towel is dry so he can wipe his hands and throw the ball better – whatever it takes for us to win a Super Bowl, I’m willing and able to do it.”

And he’s not kidding about that, either.

It’s a great attitude for Williams to have and perhaps part of the reason why the Steelers wanted to bring him in despite his poor season last year. The former first-round pick rushed for just 219 yards on 63 carries in six games, which worked out to a career-worst average of 3.5 yards per carry.

Despite his age and poor season, Williams is confident entering the season, saying he has “lots of gas left in the tank.”

From his tweets about negative fantasy football owners to his tribute to his late mother, we’re big DeAngelo Williams fans. But we have some doubts about his ability to be effective after seeing what he did last year. The only good thing is at least they will get a backup running back who will be much better in the locker room than their last guy.
