Derrick Henry still doesn’t know what jersey number he’ll wear for Titans

The Tennessee Titans kick off the season in a little over three weeks time, but rookie running back Derrick Henry still doesn’t know what jersey number he will be wearing for them.

Henry wore No. 2 during his time in college at Alabama and has been doing the same for the Titans in training camp and the preseason. The only problem is that the NFL only allows running backs to wear uniform numbers between 20 and 49 once the regular season begins. But Henry, who may have more options to choose from once final roster cuts are made, isn’t fretting.

“We’re just trying to wait and see what numbers come available,” Henry said on Wednesday, per Paul Kuharsky of ESPN. “We’re still not sure yet, we just have to wait. I’m anxious too to find out what number I will wear.”

Henry, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2015, appears to have his sights set on No. 24, but that number currently belongs to Titans cornerback Perrish Cox. Still, Henry remains hopeful that the two can work something out.

“If a number comes available that [Perrish] wants, then we’ll try to work something out,” Henry continued. “I just think 24 is a good running back number. Perrish is a good dude. We’ll have to see.”

But hey, if the 22-year-old Henry can continue trucking guys and smashing records in the pros like he did in college, he could probably wear jersey number 8675309 for all we care.
