DeSean Jackson reportedly tells teammates he is staying with Eagles
DeSean Jackson suddenly believes he is staying with the Philadelphia Eagles. After an influx of reports about the Eagles intensifying their efforts to trade the 27-year-old wide receiver, Jackson spoke to Chip Kelly on Tuesday. According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jackson called a few teammates following the talk to tell them he is staying with the team.
Kelly has stopped short of defending Jackson when asked about him publicly. He has had several chances to tell reporters Jackson is in the team’s plans for 2014, but he has chosen not to do so. On Tuesday morning, Jackson posted the photo you see above on Instagram with the following caption.
“Good to Talk to BIg Chip today!! Say or hear what ya want!! The Picture speaks for itself!! Winner BirdGaNg!!”
Obviously something was accomplished. A previous report indicated that Kelly had called Jackson to tell him his future with the Eagles was safe, but that was quickly swept under the rug.
My guess is Jackson realized remaining in Philadelphia is the best situation for him. Teams like the New York Jets have inquired about making a deal for Jackson, but he likely would have to take a pay cut. Perhaps he apologized to Kelly and told him he is not going to be a distraction going forward. Whether he actually follows through with that remains to be seen.
